What Happens During a Functional Capacity Evaluation?

A functional capacity evaluation is a process that healthcare professionals use to assess the ability of a person to work. It is also known as a work capacity evaluation or work capability assessment. The FCE process starts with an initial screening and interview with the health care professional and patient. The patient is then asked to perform certain tasks that are representative of their job duties. After the FCE, the doctor will review the information and make a recommendation about whether or not it’s safe for them to go back to work.
